  1. Sigh... really shouldn't follow a beer thread at work... restaraunt downstairs has Moo Brew Pale Ale - not a bad drop.

Of course, no drinking has been done...

  2. For those of you who like a dark beer, Harvieson's Old Engine oil - a Scottish import but well worth it. Far superior to the James Squire Porter.

Must give that Fat Yak a go at some stage.

There are a couple of French imports which are vintage ales - not bad at all, if you can get over paying $15+ for a beer.

  3. I'll have to check out the Harvieson's Old Engine Oil. Sounds good.

I ended up getting a second bottle of the Murray's Anniversary Ale. It is going to be cellared for a few years. Allegedly they will keep for 10 years. The other bottle will be consumed in august.

  4. Ah ha - found Murray's at a reasonable price (maybe I was confused with the Anniversary ale that was a lot? Oh well... wouldn't be the first time things have gotten mixed up for me when beer is involved!)

I saw a place on Crown street that had Fat Yak on tap? Think it was the clock hotel? Somewhere around there anyway. Sadly I was out and about with no chance to stop...

Hmmm... perhaps some sort of twentysix inches beer appreciation evening is in order... I might know some people that could pull something like this together... would anyone be interested?

  5. Beer appreciation society.....sounds like the monthly ride G and I have.

  6. Can I add a German beer to the fray. HANSA...not a bad drop, but the real clinker for me is I can get two tall middy's out of ONE bottle. That way I can tell the missus that I only had one. God bless the German's for putting their beer in such large bottles...it even comes in a six pack

  7. I scored on the weekend with a 6-pack of cascade first harvest.

Very nice beer that is brewed one day a year. Apparently they fresh pick the first hops of the season and brew with them the day they are picked.

Very nice, albeit pricey, beer. Very much worth it as a once a year treat.

If your lucky G, I may have some left on Wednesday.

  9. What about 50/50 Coopers Best Extra Stout and Coopers Sparkling Ale, just the drink for around the camp fire after a good days riding.
But I really love a good HefeWeizen(?), like the Cracken Back - Charlottes Pass or the one from Red Oak, the brewery at Beechworth did a good one as well from memory.

  10. Picked up some Bohemian Pilsner for the after ride tomorrow, anyone had some of it before?

    Posted 1 year ago # | | | | |
  11. Haven't tried that but did have some redoak recently, can't remember which one and must admit to being a bit disappointed. It gets rave reviews everywhere but didn't do it for me. Probably need to try some of their other styles.

I did share a bottle of Chimay with a mate the other day - pricey but good

  12. Taste knows no price.

  13. Redoak can be a bit funny - mostly their heavier style ales are the better ones (although they do a great bitter!) although they do a nice honey ale.

  14. Well I have just given the Fat Yak a go - okay, better than average but little creatures is still a superior drop in my opinion.

  15. I had a James Squires Hop Thief at the Squires Brewhouse last week. Very nice indeed.

And talking of ageing beer earlier... I bought some of the Hahn Milenium Ale when it was released in 1999. It came in what was basically a champagne bottle, including a cork. They aged very well in my wine cellar. Had the last one only a couple of years ago and it was probably the best beer I have ever had. Very complex, mouth filling flavour. I should find something else to age.

  16. I couldn't think of a better place to post this!

  17. I know I keep harping on about Murrays brewary, but well, I am going to do it again.

I've got a four pack and a half of the limited winter release of their Best Extra Porter, and well, I am floored. This thing is stunning. Seriously, if you haven't checked out their beers get down to the bottlo and try the Grand Cru or the double IPA.

  18. Whats going on, no one here drinking beer?

My new favorite (for this week anyway) is my homebrew IPA. Chock full of hoppy goodness.

    Posted 1 year ago # | | | | |
  19. Well bring some up. I want to taste your brew.

Had a 6 pack of squires pilsener, tasted **** straight from the bottlo but after a day in the fridge and ice cold very nice. Except for the last cm in the bottom, yuk!

  20. Samuel Smith Oatmeal stout - damn fine(and it comes in a BIG bottle)

    Posted 1 year ago # | | | | |
  21. Has anyone tried the Rogue beers? From America and they come in a big bottle.

Supposed to be very good, but I haven't ever gotten around to picking any up.

  22. American beer and good - didn't know that those two words normally went together in a sentence.

I suppose there must be exceptions.

  23. Can I just blatenlty brag here that I have just gotten my favourite brewer, Murrays Craft Brewing Co to sponsor the next VVC 10 hour.

Free beer for all (that enter that is).

  24. triple moine _ makes good beers taste like carlton draught!

I've had it a couple of times now and it is superb. A desert island beer if there was one.

  25. I was stranded in Northern California for 6 weeks earlier during July/August mountain biking, drinking beer and actually working. MBOSC whom I hang out with have their own resident brewer who makes a stunning India Pale Ale...ah many trails, many BBQs and many beers and don't forget work! They have some great brews around Santa Cruz and Norcal, like Arrogant Bast-ard Ale.

  26. I rarely drink anything else but one gear beer nowdays but I did sample the murrays whale ale and greatly enjoy it as well as the new coopers 62, which is extremely moreish.
why didnt we get that for the SSnats instead of their light beer?
